Become a Pathways Partner
One of the foundational principles of Pathways Academy is the importance to provide mentors, tutors, job shadowing and internship experiences for our students. The Pathways Program also requires students to spend time after school, at least three days per week, in employment and/or community service and personal enrichment activities. Community and business partners have invaluable expertise to share with our students. If you are interested in making a difference in a young people’s lives, and have time and/or resources that you can share in the following areas, please contact our Director, Kenneth Francis, at 904.633.8453.
Mentors
Mentors are kind, concerned adults—young and old and from all walks of life—who offer youth support, guidance, and encouragement. Mentors provide the sustained presence of a positive, caring adult role model, and while they are neither foster parents nor responsible for solving all of a youth’s problems, they are more than simply an older friend. A mentor seeks to help a youth navigate through the everyday challenges of school, society, and the community by drawing upon his or her greater knowledge and experience, and genuine concern for the youth. Although the specific roles of mentors vary quite a bit, every good mentor must do two things: make a connection and use that connection to convey a positive message. Mentoring is a critical component of the Pathways Program. If you would like to mentor a Pathways student please contact our Director, Kenneth Francis, at 904.633.8453.
Employment and Internships
Students in the Pathways Academy Program have the opportunity to focus on one of the following areas as they prepare for high-wage, high demand careers:
- Automotive Service
- Automotive Paint and Collision
- Electrical Wiring
- Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
- Information Technology
- Manufacturing
- Biomedical Equipment Repair
- Fiances
- Allied Health
Student preparation includes coursework in the Jobs for Florida's Graduate (JFG) Program. This program designed to teach students employable and life skills. One of the twenty components of the JFG program is work-based learning. We believe that by introducing students to the expectations of a real world occupation help to ensure their success upon graduation and entrance to the workforce.
This feature of our program affords students the opportunity to gain lawful employment, internships, and/or apprenticeships with local companies while in school. If your company would like to provide the opportunity for employment and or internships for Pathways students please contact Kenneth Francis at 904.633.8453.
Job Shadowing
Pathways students are encouraged to engage in multiple real world experiences while enrolling with us. These opportunities include job shadowing, which is a one-day visit with professionals in the students field of interest. The student shadows the employee for up to eight hours and writes a brief observation log and reflection journal. We believe this experience helps students make a more informed choice about their future.
If your company is interested in hosting one student or several students throughout the school year, please contact Kenneth Francis at 904.633.8453.
