What makes Pathways unique?

  • Pathways is a state-funded charter school housed on a community college campus
  • Small class sizes (approximately 25 students per instructor)
  • An extensive student support system which includes one-on-one case management, individualized assessment and progress monitoring, mentoring, and tutoring services
  • Two high school graduation options for students, both of which include career training at no cost to the student

Where is the school located?

All classes are located on the Downtown Campus of Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

What are the diploma options for a Pathways student?

Pathways students have two diploma options:

What classes and career training programs are available for Pathways students?

Pathways offers the standard high school curriculum (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) in addition to FCCJ introductory and workforce courses in the following areas:

  • Information Technology
  • Business and Financial Services
  • Computerized Manufacturing and Robotics
  • Automotive Service and Collision Technology
  • Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • Biotechnology Laboratory Technology
  • Construction Management and Trades

Who may apply to Pathways Academy?

Students ages 16 to 20 who no longer attend a Duval County School may apply to the Pathways Academy and out-of-district residents who have obtained a waiver from the superintendent of their home district to attend Pathways Academy.

How are students selected for admission?

The following are required for consideration for admission to Phase I of the Pathways Program:

  • Application (PDF)
  • A Grade Level Equivalent (GLE) score of score of at least 9 in reading, 7 in math, and 7 in language on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
  • No Class III offenses in the school system
  • No felony convictions
  • A community sponsor

In addition, because Pathways provides a unique opportunity for students to obtain a high school diploma, post-secondary career training, work-readiness skills, work-based learning experiences and personal enrichment experiences, applicants must be willing and able to commit to the following:

  • A full day of instruction each school day
  • Participation in the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) workplace readiness classes
  • After school employment or personal and career development and cultural enrichment activities at least three days per week       

Is school bus transportation available to Pathways students?

No. However, students are provided JTA bus passes/vouchers.

Is lunch available at the school?

Yes. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will continue to receive services. Those who do not have the option to bring a lunch or purchase a school lunch for $3.50.
