Admission
Initial Acceptance
The Pathways Academy is designed to serve motivated and talented high school age students who have not been successful in a traditional high school environment and who are committed to turning their lives around. Admission to Phase I of the Pathways Academy program is based upon the following selection criteria:
- Application (PDF)
- A Grade Level Equivalent (GLE) score of score of at least 9 in reading, 7 in math, and 7 in language on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
- No Class III offenses in the school system
- No felony convictions
- A community sponsor
In addition, because Pathways provides a unique opportunity for students to obtain a high school diploma, post-secondary career training, work-readiness skills, work-based learning experiences and personal enrichment experiences, applicants must be willing and able to commit to the following:
- A full day of instruction each school day
- Participation in the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) workplace readiness classes.
- After school employment or personal and career development and cultural enrichment activities at least three days per week
Second Year Re-Admission
Because Pathways is a charter school, students must apply for admission each year. Admission to the Pathways Academy for a second year is contingent upon the following criteria:
- Successful completion of Phase I.
- Attendance: A maximum of five absences, as defined in the Pathways Attendance Policy (PDF) during the review period
- Conduct: Adherence to the Pathways Student Code of Conduct (PDF). Students who receive a formal referral that results in an in- or out-of-school suspension must have a recommendation, from the referring instructor, for re-admission or progression to Phase II.
- Grades: Grades of C or better on all coursework taken while enrolled in Pathways.
- Letter(s) of recommendation from the FCCJ career faculty.
